Nash: Golden age of basketball in Canada (VIDEO)

Toronto — The buzz has been building for years, starting as names like Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph, Andrew Wiggins and many more got whispered about, Tweeted about, YouTubed and ranked when they were in their early teens.

Canada is coming.

The buzz got a jolt just over a year ago when Steve Nash came on board with Canada Basketball as the general manager of the men’s senior national team. The hum got louder when Anthony Bennett became the first Canadian to be taken first overall in the NBA draft last month and Wiggins became the most talked about non-NBA player in the world this past year and the leading candidate to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft in 2014.

PHOENIX (AP) An Arizona appellate court says Los Angeles Lakers star Steve Nash may have to pay additional child support for his three children and that he and his ex-wife can’t say bad things about each other through social media.

A Court of Appeals panel’s ruling Tuesday says a judge must consider ordering Nash to pay more than the children’s “basic needs.”

The court also upheld a judge’s order barring the couple from disparaging each other through social media.

It said Alejandra Amarilla Nash used her Twitter account to make a “biting criticism” of Nash after their divorce was granted.

The ruling says the order doesn’t violate her free-speech rights because both agreed to limit their speech under their joint custody agreement.

The couple divorced in 2011. They have a son and two daughters

The Lakers began their meeting with Dwight Howard at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, becoming the fifth team to sit down with him in a two-day span. About 10 members of the Lakers and their affiliates attended the meeting in Beverly Hills, including Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, General Manager Mitch Kupchak and Coach Mike D’Antoni. Lakers executive Jim Buss was also there but not team governor Jeanie Buss, who nonetheless sent out a pro-Howard tweet earlier Tuesday, saying the “Lakers offer 1) best opportunities for your playing & post-playing career 2) have BEST fans 3) I’m here for you.” Los Angeles Times

Nash: ‘We talked about last year and how it could be different. We want to find a way to get him back, regroup, re tool and make it happen.’ Nash on meeting with Howard: “I think the Lakers did a great job and it was a really good meeting. I feel really positive about it.”

Dwight Howard is leaving California for a few days to think about his free agency choice, Kobe Bryant’s message to Dwight Howard in Lakers meeting was straight forward. He talked about winning mostly. All I have to say is I wouldn’t want to be Dwight Howard right now, he has a life changing decision to make, I say Howard takes his talents to Texas….Houston Texas.
